Luxon's nine targets: what was promised and what has happened

In April 2024 Luxon's government set nine targets, most to be reached by 2030. This page compares what it promised with the latest official results. Of the nine targets, three have already been met and three show some progress. One has moved away from the goal, one is mixed and emissions are projected to stay within the limit.

How to read these targets

Baselines are the government's own. Several come from before it took office on 27 November 2023, and the periods differ by target. Health results lag a quarter behind the other targets. Movement toward a target is not proof that a policy caused it: the economy, migration and other events also affect these numbers.
