Cost of living NZ

Prices rose 4.1% in the year to the June 2026 quarter, up from 2.7% a year earlier. Transport prices rose the most, 10.6%, and petrol was up 17.9% on a year earlier. Pay rates rose 2.0%, so prices are rising faster than pay rates.

  • Inflation (annual CPI): 5.6% (Sep 2023 qtr) to 4.1% (Jun 2026 qtr); down 1.6 points.
