NZ health system statistics

Every health target improved this year, though none has reached its 2030 goal. 72.6% of planned surgery patients were treated within four months, up from a low of 61.0% in 2022. There were 85,462 nurses licensed to practise in 2025, 8.6% more than the year before.

  • Planned surgery within 4 months: 63.4% (Jun 2023 qtr) to 72.6% (Jun 2026 qtr); up 9.2 points, better.
  • Cancer treatment within 31 days: 84.2% (Jun 2023 qtr) to 87.0% (Jun 2026 qtr); up 2.8 points, better.
  • Nurses licensed to practise: 65,419 (2022) to 85,462 (2025); up 20,043, better.
