The median weekly rent for new rentals across New Zealand each month, from tenancy bond records, with the lower and upper quartiles and the number of new bonds lodged. Monthly from 1993.

These affect how the figures can be compared.

  • New rentals only: what new renters pay, not the average rent of all existing tenancies (see CPI rents for that).
  • Changes in the mix of homes being let (size, location) affect the median.
  • Dollars are not adjusted for inflation.
